David Langford – Managing Director & Chief Investment Analyst

David is a corporate general management and capital markets executive. He brings a diverse combination of operational, strategic, analytical, advisory and investment execution experience.

David has spent over 20 years advising corporations and institutional investors.
He has held analytical leadership roles in some of Australia’s largest corporations and top Wall Street investment banks.

He is a recognised researcher and independent thinker in the fields of global telecoms, media and technology industries, where innovation and global change dominate value creation.

David has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and a Master of Business (Accounting & Finance) from the University of Technology, Sydney where he is also an Advisory Council Member in the Business School’s Integrated Business Consulting program. David is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD) and is a Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA).

Philip Knox

Phillip is currently Chief Operating Officer of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. The Garvan Institute is a world leader in researching cures for cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and Arthritis.

His prior experience includes the role of Chief Financial Officer at Australian regional subscription television operator Austar United Communications Ltd – a member of the world’s largest international cable television group, Liberty Global.

While at Austar, Philip played a central role in driving operating efficiencies, capital management, corporate governance and financial reporting (Sarbanes Oxley compliance) initiatives. These programs provided continually attractive returns to shareholders from 2004 to 2012, concluding in the purchase of Austar by Foxtel. Phillip has also been the Finance Director and a Board Member of SAP Australia and was the Chief Accountant of Channel Ten Sydney.

He holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting & Finance) from the University of Technology, Sydney and has completed the Advanced Management Program at The University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School. Philip is a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Theo Hnarakis

Theo is Chairman of Crowd Mobile Limited, a mobile applications provider. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Newzulu Limited, a crowd sourced news and freelance journalism platform that operates in partnership with Australian Associated Press.

Theo brings a wealth of experience from the media industry and Australian ASX-listed technology businesses. He has also held senior multinational management roles, in particular at News Corp and as CEO of Melbourne IT – a world leader in domain registration, website design, email and web hosting. Theo advises on innovation within the field of global digital brand management, to optimise brand presence on the Internet, while providing protection against brand abuse.

He holds a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of South Australia. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD) and was an ambassador for the Starlight Foundation. He was named one of the world’s top 25 pioneers in Domain names by Verisign in 2012.

Emmanuel Calligeris

Emmanuel is an independent investment committee member and advisor with 25 years of senior management experience in international banks and investment houses.

Between 1995 and 2013, he was Chief Investment Officer for OptiMix, the multi manager unit of ANZ/OnePath. Emmanuel’s remit as CIO included investment fund manager selection, macro-economic analysis and implementation, asset allocation, risk management, investment committee policy formulation, business development and commercial management. He has also worked for the Sydney Futures Exchange, Australian Gilt Securities, Bankers Trust Australia and Kellogg Australia. Emmanuel lends an in-depth knowledge of investment market operations across all asset classes including equities, fixed interest, property, alternative assets and cash.

Emmanuel holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of New South Wales and a Master of Business (Banking & Finance) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Peter Leonard

Peter is a founding partner of Gilbert + Tobin Lawyers and head of its Communications, Media and Data Protection practice.

His extensive expertise spans communication and e-payments regulation, information management, privacy, interception and data protection. He specialises in commercial and corporate transactions in the technology, media, communications and Internet business fields, acting for telecommunications and media operators throughout South East Asia.

Peter also fills a number of positions in the wider legal fraternity. These include Chair of the Law Council of Australia’s Media and Communications Committee and serving on various committees of the American Bar Association. He is also a director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals Australia and New Zealand (iappANZ).

Peter holds a Bachelor of Economics and Masters of Laws from the University of Sydney.
