Our interest in this topic has been piqued by the timing and quantum of the Equifax’s offer for Veda Advantage Ltd.

We consider that smart mobile device penetration, the propensity to undertake mobile e-commerce and digital inclusion across Asian emerging markets may provide regional growth opportunities for larger growth constrained Australian corporations.

In our view the Australian banks and Telstra control the core underlying data and hold valued positions of trust with consumers. These characteristics will be critical to the creation of value from ‘Big Data’, we believe.

We consider that much Australian data analytics activity passes under the investor radar. Quantium (50% held by WOW) presents glimpses of the domestic opportunity, in our view. We believe that Quantium’s ability to unlock value from data is supported by clients such as NAB, Foxtel and Westfield.
